Many in the Armed Forces have questions about the meaning of life, but these often only come to the surface at intense times, such as during war. The Alpha course provides a safe place to address these questions.
The Alpha course has been run in the British Armed Forces since 1994. Alpha for Forces was officially launched in May 2003, with hundreds of courses now running in the Armed Forces worldwide, both on bases and operations.
The content of Alpha for Forces is exactly the same as the standard Alpha course. However, with some adaptions, the course can be tailored to suit the regimes of different bases and operations.
A typical evening starts with a light meal or snack, followed by a talk about the Christian faith. Talks are given by speakers or shown on video. After the talk, guests split up into discussion groups and are encouraged to ask any question they want. During the course, there is a day or weekend away – the focus being the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
